CHALLENGE TO MITT ROMNEY SUPPORTERS (and watch them run)

redbloodedamerica:

Parents, follow Obama’s example.  Tell you kids they didn’t build that.

Does your god tell you that it’s okay to lie for political gain, or is this something that you decided on your own?

Obama didn’t say that.  You’re dishonest.  No, you can’t claim an honest mistake, as there’s plenty of transcripts and even videos of Obama’s speech, and it would have been the easiest thing in the world to see what he really said, if you gave a damn about the truth. You are responsible for your actions.  You are responsible for spreading lies.

Here’s what Obama said:

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help.  There was a great teacher somewhere in your life.  Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.  Somebody invested in roads and bridges.  If you’ve got a business. you didn’t build that.  Somebody else made that happen.  The Internet didn’t get invented on its own.  Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

Instead of continuing to lie, instead of immorally spreading disinformation, I challenge Obama supporters to explain what exactly they feel is wrong with Obama’s words, what they think is incorrect.  And why.  Explain why you feel so strongly about it that lying is okay.

First off, let’s get the entire quote on the table here:

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet. - Full transcript here and video here -

I don’t know what the hell you mean by “he didn’t say that” because he very clearly SAID THAT.

Sorry, I should have explained: It all has to do with reading comprehension. It’s not what words he used, it’s what message he was conveying, and in it’s proper context Obama clearly did not say what you and other dishonest people claim.

What’s more, what he says is correct. International commerce was huge under Rome, but only because of Roman roads and the Roman military. The Romans loved “Law & Order,” and as stifling as that was for many conquered peoples, it was very good for business, for the merchants.

In the same sense that a Roman merchant relied on well maintained ports & roads and a navy to chase after pirates, today’s businessman relies on all of the public infrastructure, the education system and even the courts.

What separates a contract from a piece of toilet paper? The law, together with a court system that enforces that law.

I know, I know, jackass Conservatives like to say idiotic things like, “If there was no government postal service to deliver my packages, I’d just use FedEX or UPS….” forgetting that neither could exist without the public highways, air traffic control, an education system to teach their employees how to read… etc, etc, etc.

Of course, this is all terribly complicated and probably fills your little head, sending you scurrying to the comfort of an overly simplistic “I dood it all by my wittle self.”

Enjoy.
