It’s not a choice between writing or Big Bird, and it never was.  Raise taxes.  Throw the Wall Street crooks who lost TRILLIONS of dollars into jail, confiscate their wealth to pay for the damages.  End the tax give-aways to the rich.  That’ll pay for Big Bird, writing, reading, new schools…  jobs programs… college for everyone… healthcare.

You don’t get it. You simply do not get it — the enormity of the theft.  Our government GAVE AWAY more money than our nation’s GDP, more than enough money to provide healthcare to everybody for life.  More than enough money to pay for college for everyone.  More than enough money to pay for daycare to every parent who wants to work or go to (free) school. It was more than enough money to pay off the entire U.S. debt.  No, not the deficit, but all the deficits that have accumulated over the years, all of our nation’s debt.

It was more than enough money to buy every product, every service Sold in the United States for an entire year.

$16,000,000,000,000.00 had been secretly given out to US banks and corporations and foreign banks everywhere from France to Scotland. From the period between December 2007 and June 2010, the Federal Reserve had secretly bailed out many of the world’s banks, corporations, and governments.

The amount of money we’re talking here is STAGGERING, and nearly all of it went to propping up the opulent lifestyles of the rich.  And we the people are asked to do with less and less.

So screw any teacher dumb enough to claim that we have to prioritize, that it comes down to some kind of a choice between PBS and classrooms.  It doesn’t.  It never did.  And anyone dumb enough to claim otherwise has no business teaching.
