I have never argued that the burqa/hijab is a fashion statement.
As a non-Muslim who happens to be male, I explicitly have made the point that many Muslim women actively choose to wear a head covering and that a good amount are not forced into doing so.
The point is, you recognize “Internalized repression” when it’s on the basis of color, but you’re blind to it when it’s on the basis of sex.
